Vanillin is a great product, but Veratraldehyde is simply sublime… Pure beauty, sensuality, and even mystery. Instantly in love with this material!

It’s like milk foam. Like creamy ice cream. Delicate, creamy, vanilla.

My nose detects that this is probably used often in “Fall” themed candles. This smells almost identical to a generic “Caramel Pecan Brittle” candle I have. I personally love the smell, it’s Fall in powdered form.

Endlessly useful and a work horse of a material from top to bottom and everywhere inbetween making florals more realistic, nilla more nilla-y and bringing interest to incense accords- ok I must stop before I give away too much 🙂

    sadly tested on animals….

Hi Hera, where did you get this information?

This works so well for me in natural blends as adds a nice light vanilla creaminess without needing to overdose on vanilla to achieve the same effect. It is a great addition to my collection and finds its way into most blends. I think the ‘tested on animals’ reference might come from the SDS.

Tested on Animals- According to the SDS sheet, they did a lethal dose test on both rats and rabbits. Sad.

This natural veratraldehyde can be used to add depth to natural vanillin, which can sometimes seem a little 2-dimensional on its own.

To clarify: the fact that a lethal dosage has been established for a chemical and listed in the SDS is not the same as saying that a given product has been tested on animals. At some point in history the chemical was tested, but this is true for all commercially available chemicals, including water. It’s probably also true for most essential oils. However, if you buy, say, Evian, you don’t need to worry that it has been tested on animals, even if water has. Possibly the answer is to abstain from water, but the better solution may be to learn a bit more about things before forming strong opinions and sharing them online.

This is a wonderful material, for the reasons others have said. It’s nice that it doesn’t read as vanilla.

A first I was anosmic. One month later started to notice it as something disappointing or even plastic, but after a wile I appreciated it, it and it creats a powdery, sweet, not-caramel, base, with a cookie reminescence, it’s far less opaque and invasive than vanillin, also far more subtle, and can blend well. It’s worth to give it a chance.
