I’m in love with this: it’s the gentle, warm but still fresh and spicy facet of frankincense that lasts long into the traditional oil’s drydown. I normally think of it as the aspect of frankincense I can never get enough of, literally. That is, I’m always tempted to amp up this facet of frankincense in my accords, but normally this is difficult to do without the other facets of frankincense taking over the entire accord – I’m thinking of the harsher top notes (alpha pinene, beta pinene) or the other woodier facets of frankincense’s drydown. This extract feels like having the frankincense cake and eating it.

I agree with Bo – this is wonderful. Deeply resinous, woody and spicy without the sharp notes. Quite beautiful.

Really nice, clean and versatile. I think this can be used more freely than Olibanum Couer (Ventos) although it does not have as strong or long-lasting of a church incense dry-out note as the Ventos material (which isn’t to say that the longevity is at all poor…). Very useful; could easily be incorporated into citrus and floral accords.

LOVE THIS. Any harshness that may be present in frankincense is gone. Smelling it right now…it’s like a wonderful syrup…sweet, spicy, light wood resin, and a gentle current of citrus. I inadvertently purchased 2 – and I’m happy with that.

Does no one else pick up a hint of pine in this? I have used it before in a mostly woody fragrance, but just incorporated it into a woody, spicy, citrusy, tiny bit of mint (Mintonant) with a touch of vanillan fragrance and swear that in addition to the very long dry-down, it is contributing a little pine.

One of the few frankincense materials I’ve come across that smells anything like Aldehyde C12 MNA – except I mostly hate that stuff and consider this essential. It is much brighter, more citrus, and less woody-rich than olibanum coeur, which is also a wonderful material. Frankincense is generally considered a mid-base note, but natural frankincense oil is essentially diluted by high-volatility terpenes, a-pinene in particular. These more concentrated extracts have much better longevity and are more specific in their effects.
