This material is very much in the same wheelhouse as Polysantol, Firsantol, Sanjinol, Brahmanol, Sandalore, Ebanol, etc. In general, I find most synthetic sandalwood molecules to be off putting- none of the above listed smell like sandalwood to me but I’m a bit of a sandalwood snot. I can’t help it if I prefer the real thing 😉 But this one… Iso Mohanol is softer (as in light and airy), somewhat sweeter… I’m not getting, “powdery” as stated in the description but I most definitely get buttery, lactonic qualities and believe it or not, the impressions of santalol/al. I’ll be damned… a synthetic sandalwood molecule I *actually* like. Thank you for the sample, Christine! I’m coming back for more.

Iso Mohanol is rather different than the usual suspects, like Javanol, Polysantol, Firsantol, Ebanol, Bacdanol, etc… I almost consider this to be analogous to Iso-E Super. The IES of sandalchems.

It’s considerably softer than the aforementioned, with impact more akin to Sandalore, but greater than Sandela. It isn’t quite as close as Dreamwood, but that’s the closest thing I can compare it to, as far as usefulness. You can push this one quite a bit, and it helps to soften the scratchiness of the higher impact sandalchems, whilst helping to lift and extend your sandalwood oil, with which it pairs synergistically with.

It’s not overtly synthetic or harsh whatsoever. It’s a really great sandalwood modifier, and I find it particularly useful when it comes to formulas built upon heavy bases of natural sandalwood.

Again, it isn’t impactful, but in the right hand of cards, it’s a remarkable workhorse.
