If you are looking for a novel bitter citrus note and the thought of lime, grapefruit or lemon bores you, look no further. Cedrat Heart is one of my favourites. With bergamot and a touch of something sweeter like mandarin, Cedrat Heart pairs well and creates modern citrus top notes or it can be used to create a modern eau de cologne. Refreshing with a capital R!

This may seem pricey for a citrus oil but it is more than worth it. It has the most extraordinarily elegant dry lemon-lime bittersweet presence that goes on and on; unusual longevity for any citrus. I can recognize its presence in several classic Guerlain colognes. As is standard for any Robertet product, the heart note is notably better than usual cedrat essential oil.

This co-extraction of citrus medica, bergamia, and limonum concentrates the strengths of all three ingredients into a single raw material. To me the melange of ingredients is high in linalool, so there is an obvious connection to bergamot but there is also the sparkle of citron and lemon, making it more complex and diffusive than a single ingredient. To call this note “bitter” is maybe overstating it though, unless you are classifying the citron itself as a bitter citrus fruit or an aspect of the note. There is a bitter aspect to the material but the high amount of linalool makes it sweet as well. It easily blends with green and cypress (even woody) notes to make the “inedible” signature of a chypre. Blending it with irones/ionones/orris (iris materials) or musks will bring out the linalool and can give connotations of earl grey, some breakfast cereals or other sweeter nuances. I recommend making very simple accords to begin using the material.

I can feel it like lemon cough drops. Tart refreshing bitterness . It’s not terrible, it’s amazing.

This citrus is simply mouth wateringly sweet and very tenacious. Just made a lemon blossom accord using lemon eo copaiba oleoresin, jasmine sambac absolute, cedrat, and a touch of lemon verbena. Amazing. I recommend this over any citrus essential oil regardless of the cost.

Upon smelling it the electrical frequency of my body vibrates. It is that good! Uplifting mood beast!Strong, long lasting citrus smell that is not bitter, it is smooth, fresh and crystal clear like a drop of the best organic citrus juice you ever had.
