The oil, which actually comes from the junip is obtained by steam distillation of chopped wood. The composition of Texas oil is complex but in general, the major constituents are thujopsene (60%), cedrol (19%), alpha cedrene, beta cedrene and alpha copaene, but the relative percentages vary depending on the origin of the cedar trees used to produce the oil.

This is a nice clean slightly “oily” cedar scent, blends well with sandalwood synthetics as a naturalizer in a pinch.

When I started using cedarwood, Texas was my least favorite go to. Once you learn and been on the journey a bit, you get more comfortable with things. Texas is by my favorite cedarwood to work with. It’s smoky, smoky nuance, balsamic and surprisingly sweet. Love to use this when I can. Blends great with patchouli of course, and good with rose. I love experimenting with this one.
