I’ve smelt ambergris before, but this was my first time using it as a tincture. At 10% the odour is a faecal combination of sandalwood and jasmine, sweet and rubbery, with a sea-breezy diffusiveness. At 2.5% it starts to reveal a beautiful marine musk, keeping the ethereal salty spray. It’s a strange and bewitching odour, not immediately attractive, but enormously evocative. I have since used in a seashore fragrance to great effect.

The balance of ambroxide (dry amberwood, mineral) and ambrinol (fæcal, leathery, ambery) is well balanced with subtle marine facets, both the briny oceanic and dried, sweetish seaweed-like facets. It’s more diffusive than some other tinctures of ambergris and much less animalic, so as I said I think the ambroxide/ambrinol ratio is quite good here and the maceration has a produced a fine quality product that has been helpful in adding to my library of these precious substances.

Authentic Ambergris tincture is Very Potent. Can be mixed with pretty much any fragrance and has a positively profound effect for me personally worth every penny.
