Elemi has been quite trendy over the past 5 years in men’s fragrances. Dior love using it. You can also find it in Byredo and Amouage fragrances. Crisp and incense-y it also has citrus and peppery facets. It does get a little petrol-y when it’s overdosed. Being the ‘heart’ of elemi, Robertet have cleaned it up. It still has a bit of a petrol edge but a lot of the less desirable facets are stripped away making it easier to work with. As you would expect from Robertet, the quality of this elemi raw material is superb.

This is my first time smelling elemi in any capacity, and I’m quite taken by it. There is a definite pine note that comes straight to the front, very much like a high quality frankincense odor. However, there is something lighter, brighter, and altogether more ethereal about this. I do sense a floral aspect to it, and on the drydown there is a slight marine note that reminds me almost of ambergris. It’s all wrapped in a pleasant incense vibe that brings it together. I can see this having many applications, and very much look forward to blending with it!

I do not own any elemi, so can’t compare to usual one. Elemi heart is very useful product – gives sparkle to compositions (if you do not overdose). It’s hard to find components, that will add spicyness to compositions and at the same time not affecting the composition other ways (Cashmeran makes sweeter; nutmeg is easy to overdose and hard to mask, etc) . If a woody composition get’s a little dull (which in my case can happen if I add too many different woody components) elemi heart can be helpful. I suggest at least for amateurs like me.

Absolutely gorgeous elemi.

I’m in love. Such a pure, sparkling material. Bridges the gap between citrus and woody beautifully.
